Torre Bisenzio, an estate steeped in history and reborn through passion, is the brainchild of Mike Rees and his wife, Neena. After years of living and working around the globe, the couple decided to "spread their wings" in Europe, eventually setting their sights on Italy. Their journey led them to a derelict 200-hectare estate dating back to the 13th century, recognized for its iconic tower—or torre—a historic customs post at the crossroads of Umbria, Tuscany, and Lazio. Despite not speaking a word of Italian upon their arrival, Mike and Neena were undeterred by the challenges ahead.
What began as a modest project, with just a hectare of vines planted like a garden vineyard, quickly blossomed into something far greater. Encouraged by the success of their early produce, they embarked on an ambitious expansion, building a winery and planting additional hectares of vines. The estate’s potential was undeniable, and Mike and Neena were determined to transform Torre Bisenzio into a beacon of quality and authenticity.
A decade later, Torre Bisenzio stands as a testament to their hard work and vision. The estate now boasts seven hectares of vineyards, 650 olive trees, and 200 hectares of land that produce not only exquisite red and white wines but also high-quality olive oil and organic vegetables. Additionally, the estate is home to 120 of the region’s historic Chianina cattle, famous for producing the renowned Fiorentina steaks.
The secret to Torre Bisenzio’s success lies in the guiding principles that Mike and Neena have adhered to since the beginning: quality, authenticity, and sustainability. These values are woven into every aspect of their work, ensuring that the estate’s products are not only exceptional but also deeply connected to the rich history and culture of the region.
